General Surgery

Surgeries are performed daily at UAH and include spays and neuters, as well as other general soft tissue procedures. Our surgery suite is outfitted with a heated surgery table, new state of the art monitoring system which includes EKG, blood pressure, respiration, oxygen level and temperature monitoring. Our patients are intubated to maintain airway control and receive intravenous fluids. During the procedure, an assistant will personally monitor your pet throughout the surgery and recovery. We believe strongly in pain control, and strive to make sure your pet's surgical procedure is as comfortable as possible.

Dentistry

Dental disease is one of the most common diseases of companion animals. Not only can dental disease cause bad breath and oral pain, but it can also cause problems in other organ systems, especially the cardiovascular system. We recommend that our patients have their teeth brushed several times a week. However, if dental tartar is still a problem, we recommend a professional dental cleaning. Dental cleanings are performed under general anesthesia, during which your pet will be closely monitored by an assistant using state of the art monitoring equipment. Your pet's teeth will have all of the plaque and tartar ultrasonically removed from all surfaces , including the areas between the teeth and beneath the gumline. The teeth are then polished and a dental rinse is applied. While under anesthesia, your pet's teeth will be examined to see if there are any loose or infected teeth that need to be extracted or masses that need to be biopsied.

Preventative Health Care

Our goal is to keep your pets healthy by preventing as many health problems as possible. This strategy starts with regular health check-ups, at least once a year. During these visits, your pet will receive a thorough physical exam, be checked for parasites, as well as receive any needed vaccinations. It is also recommended that older patients have yearly blood work performed to monitor for any problems, such as, kidney or liver disease, diabetes, and thyroid problems. These diseases are more common in older patients and diagnosing these conditions early leads to better outcomes for our patients. Part of preventative care is making sure our patients are protected against fleas and ticks, which carry disease, as well as heartworms and intestinal parasites. We stock the most effective and safest parasite preventatives, such as, Comfortis, Trifexis, Bravecto, Revolution, Sentinel, Heartgard and more.

Diagnostic Services

Our patients can't talk to us, so that can make it more difficult to know what is causing them to be sick. Therefore, diagnostics are extremely important in veterinary medicine. At UAH, we are proud to be able to offer our patients the latest in laboratory diagnostic equipment, such as ultrasound and digital radiography. We have recently upgraded to the latest blood analyzers and can now provide reliable and fast diagnostics for many diseases during your appointment.

Complete Pharmacy

We are happy to provide our clients with a fully stocked pharmacy, making filling your pet's prescription easy and convenient. We understand that pet owners have many options when purchasing their pet's medications, so we strive to maintain competitive pricing for flea and heartworm medications. When you purchase your medications from our pharmacy, you can rest assured that our medications were obtained from safe, reliable sources and are stored appropriately to maintain safety and effectiveness.

Boarding, Bathing, and Microchipping

Boarding services are available for dogs and cats. Our canine guests enjoy our play yard where they can have individual free time, off leash, in the safety of our fenced in green space. We also offer large kennels with their own individual outdoor space that can be enjoyed during daytime hours. Our feline boarders are offered individual free time in our "cat room" to explore. Our staff goes above and beyond to make sure our guests are happy and comfortable during their stay. We require our boarding patients be fully vaccinated and free of fleas. Spaces fill up quickly, so schedule your pet's stay as far in advance as possible.

Although we do not provide grooming services, such as cuts, we do offer bathing, nail trims and anal sac expression.

We offer Home Again Microchipping Service. A microchip is a permanent way to identified your pet, unlike a tag, that can be lost.
We're happy to provide estimates for all surgeries and hospitalizations.
